Here is the latest Irish employment permit news.

CHANGES TO EMPLOYMENT PERMIT FORMAT

The Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment have announced that from the 1st of September 2022 the Employment Permit Section will issue all employment permits in electronic format only.  Each electronic permit will be signed by a senior official of the Department and will contain a unique permit number.

Prior to the COVID19 Pandemic, Employment Permits were issued in hard copy only, however since the COVID19 Pandemic they have been issued in electronic format.  This system has worked very well and the confirmation that employment permits will be issued in an electronic format going forward is a positive and progressive development in the Irish Employment Permits system.  Sinnott Solicitors Dublin and Cork submit that it should contribute to a faster and more efficient permit processing system in circumstances where hard copy permits are no longer required.

Employment permits previously issued in hard copy format will continue to remain valid until the date of expiry on each individual permit.

STAMP 4 SUPPORT LETTER FOR DOCTORS HOLDING A GENERAL EMPLOYMENT PERMIT

The process to enable non-EEA national doctors who have resided in the state for 21 months or more on a general employment permit to apply for a Stamp 4 Support Letter has reopened.  Applications will be accepted by the Department from the 1st of September 2022 to the 31st October 2022.

Previously doctors who resided in the State on a general employment permit had to wait for five years before they could apply for a Stamp 4 Permission to Remain, however following changes announced earlier this year they may now apply for a Stamp 4 Support Letter after 21 months.

Applications for a Stamp 4 Support Letter should be submitted using the relevant application form which can be found here.

The application form should be emailed to EPStamp4@enterprise.gov.ie with a recent payslip.  The subject title in the email should be marked “DOCTORS STAMP 4 REQUEST”.

Applicants will be notified by the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment when their application is successfully processed. A request to issue them with a Stamp 4 Permission to Remain will then be submitted to the Department of Justice on their behalf.

The Department of Justice will subsequently issue the Stamp 4 Permission to Remain directly to the applicant doctors. They will then be required to register the immigration permission with the Garda National Immigration Bureau or their local immigration office in the usual manner in order to obtain an updated Irish Residence Permit.

Spouses or Partners of applicant doctors will also receive an immigration permission permitting them to work.
