Over the past month, the Department of Enterprise Trade and Employment have posted a number of updates regarding minimum remuneration requirements and quotas for employment permits. Here is a summary of the updates.
Deferral of increase to Minimum Annual Remuneration
In December 2023, the DETE announced a number of changes to the minimum salary requirements for employment permits, with a number of increases taking effect in January 2024.
It was originally proposed that salaries would further increase in January 2025 however following engagement with various stakeholders, the January 2025 salary increase was suspended. The DETE are currently carrying out a further review of the matter and invited submissions from various parties until the 10th of January 2025.
Results of the further review of the roadmap of future salary increases will be published by the DETE in due course.
Healthcare Assistants, Home Carers, Care Workers
An exception to the suspension of salary increases arises in respect of Healthcare Assistants, Home Carers, Care Workers. This employment was not subject to the minimum salary increase in January 2024.
With effect from the 17th of January 2025, the minimum salary for the above workers has increased from €27,000 to €30,000 per annum.
Applications for the above category of employment which were submitted prior to the 17th of January will be processed based on the €27,000 salary. Applications submitted after this date will require a €30,000 minimum salary and the labour market needs test submitted with any such applications will need to advertise this amount, otherwise the application will be refused.
Quota for Transport and Distribution Clerk Applications
As of the 8th of January 2025, the quota of 300 General Employment Permits for Transport and Distribution Clerks is full. No further applications will be accepted for this category of employment.
Quota for Vehicle Builders and Repairer Applications
As of the 13th of January 2025, the quota for Vehicle Builders and Repairer’s is full. No further applications will be accepted for this category of employment.
