The Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service posted a statement on the INIS website last week advising people to continue to submit their applications for Irish citizenship and assuring Applicants that urgent attention was been given to the findings and implications arising from the case of Jones v Minister for Justice and Equality.
In the meantime, our client Roderick Jones proceeded to lodge an appeal against the High Court judgment with the Court of Appeal last week. The appeal is listed to be heard on the 8th of October before the Court of Appeal.
Today the Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service have confirmed that on the 25th of July 2019 the Minister for Justice and Equality Mr Charlie Flanagan obtained cabinet approval for a proposed bill to deal with the significant problems arising from the High Court judgment.
We understand that urgent attention is being given to the drafting of this bill, however in circumstances where Dáil Eireann is now on its summer recess, returning on the 17th of September 2019, there is no prospect of the bill being put before the Oireachtas until the middle of September at the earliest.
The INIS has confirmed that the Citizenship ceremony scheduled for the 30th of September 2019 is due to proceed as planned and that Applicants should continue to submit their applications for Irish citizenship.
