In a press release (embeded below) from the Irish Naturalisation & Immigration Service (INIS), the Minister has announced that Ireland would accept 300 migrants to help alleviate the crisis in the Mediteranean.

Whilst this may be welcomed in many, if not necessarily all, quarters, our creaking Direct Provision asylum system continues to remain hardly fit for purpose as we have written here.

What may or may not spur reform is that many current and previous detainees may have grounds to seek compensation* for the psyhological injury and loss of earnings that they have sufferred as a result of prolonged detention.

*Sinnott Solicitors are acting for a number of such claimants and if you have been affected please contact Carol Sinnott at (01) 406 2862.
