The Employment Permits Act 2024 was enacted on the 2nd of September 2024, introducing a new Seasonal Employment Permit at the time.

No dia 19º of February 2025, the Seasonal Employment Permit program was formally commenced.

What does this mean

The Seasonal Employment Permit will allow non-EEA nationals to work from the 14º of April to 12º of November each year as a “horticultural operative” in the soft fruit or vegetable growing industry. Permits will be granted for a maximum of seven months per year and can be renewed twice. Therefore the maximum number of seasonal permits available to an individual employee will be three.

The minimum salary for a Seasonal Employment Permit is €30,000 per annum.

The permits will be granted to an “approved seasonal employer” only, with six employers being granted “approved seasonal employer “ status per year.

It is understood that further changes to the Seasonal Employment Permit may be introduced in future, such as an increased number of approved seasonal employers and an expansion of eligible roles and industries.
