The Department of Justice has announced that Irish citizenship applications can now be submitted online via the Immigration Service Delivery online portal.

Paper applications on the old Form 8 and other application forms will continue to be accepted by post for applicant’s who have begun the process.

The Form 11 application process for minors born in the State who are entitled to apply for Irish citizenship after three years of residency will remain a paper-based application process for the moment whilst the ISD develop an e-filing procedure for this type of application.

The move to an online application process has been part of the Department of Justice action plan for a number of years and a further step towards the digitalisation of Irish immigration and citizenship processes.

Sinnott Solicitors Dublin and Cork welcome the move of the Immigration Service Delivery to modernise its immigration and citizenship services. In our daily practice in Dublin and Cork, delays and inconsistent processing times is a substantial concern of many applicants. We view the citizenship e-filing process as a significant development which we hope will improve future processing times for citizenship applications resulting in a much fairer and efficient process for all applicants.
