STAMP 4 PERMISSION TO REMAIN FOR NON-CONSULTANT HOSPITAL DOCTORS

The Department of Enterprise Trade and Employment have recently announced that Non Consultant Hospital Doctors working in public hospitals on a General Employment Permit who have completed 21 months of employment may now apply for a Stamp 4 Support Letter.

Previously only doctors who were the holders of Critical Skills Employment Permits were entitled to apply for a Stamp 4 Support Letter after 21 months of employment. In 2022, the DETE opened the Stamp 4 support letter process to doctors working on a General Employment Permit during a specific application period, so not all doctors were eligible to apply.

The recent announcement places all doctors on an equal standing, whether they have been working pursuant to a Critical Skills Employment Permit or a General Employment Permit. The contribution made by non-EEA national doctors to the Irish healthcare system is enormous and this change is a welcome development giving equal treatment to all non-EEA national doctors working in the State in terms of their immigration permission.
